I would like to get Minecraft on my MacBook Air. But I'm kind of afraid that something would break if I also download mods. So could there be any problems if I get Minecraft on the MacBook Air (13 "2017)?

I think there won't be any problems. Your MacBook definitely meets the minimum requirements.

Don't worry about downloading mods either. Just pay attention to where you download them. Even if macOS is considered a very secure operating system, no system is 100% secure.
