Please do not buy in the Microsoft store. Made the same mistake. This is some Minecraft version but not the "normal" one that you can play with friends on servers. As far as I understand, you can't play games on certain servers somehow. Buying it at mojang is better everything else is a rip off
You have to get the minecraft java version via mojang
The edition on minecraft.net is the Java Edition (better)
The one in the Microsoft Store is the Bedrock Edition (worse)
If you only want to play on PC only with PC players, then you definitely need the Java Edition.
I don't know whether you can still buy Minecraft through Mojang, but you definitely need a Mincrosoft account to be able to play Minecraft.
If there's no longer any possibility via Mojang, then you have to buy it in the MicrosoftStore and make sure that you take the JAVA Versuon.
