The Java Edition.

There no mods, texture packs, skins or maps cost money. There are also updates earlier than the Bedrock Edition.

The only thing that doesn't work in JE is crossplay.

I've only been playing the Java Edition for 10 years and can only recommend it.

1.8.9 is best for pvp so also my favorite version

1.8.X in PvP

1.12.2 for mods

1.16.3, when I want to play normally

I've played it since it was in beta and think 1.8 is the best
