How much space does a tree need to be in minecraft?

Hey I'm building a tree farm on a lonely island and wanted to know how many blocks between the trees must be LG

One with planter and harvester?

So if you use the two machines you do not need any distance. The planter (where the seedlings come in) has to stand in the middle of the trees and the harvester (which mine) has to stand on the edge. Both need energy. Without the machines, I think you need 4. And if you only take the harvester, you need no distance and always dismantles everything.
