Minecraft bait counter-productive or good at treasure fishing?

The enchantment bait reduces the seconds how quickly you have something on the hook but also increases the chance of having a fish instead of a treasure or garbage. So the question is, is it still good to use bait on a fishing rod with repair and luck in the sea 3 because you fish faster?

When did Lure increase the likelihood of fish?

This enchantment only makes you catch things faster. It has no influence on the distribution of the probabilities.

According to minecraft wiki, the probability of fishing instead of garbage or treasure increases at level 1 + 1%, level 2 + 2%, level 3 + 3%

I once attached a screenshot from the wiki. Somehow that's not the case.

With Bait III, the fishing including animation will take ~ 8.23 seconds. Without bait III 20.5 seconds

The probability of a treasure is usually around 0.05. With bait III around 0.035.

Hence:

(1 treasure * 0.05) /20.5s = 0.00243 treasures / second

(1 treasure * 0.035) /8.23s = 0.00425 treasures / second

---> Bait III is worth it.

I have an animation duration of 3 seconds, which is not included in the waiting time for fishing. The probability of the treasure is greatly simplified (with bait). The duration of the fishing was considered a Laplace experiment.

Addendum: I have not calculated it for luck of the sea, since the multiplier between 'with bait' and 'without bait' remains unchanged.

Everything is simplified in the overview. In parts of the German wiki you won't even find everything on the specific pages for enchantment (e.g. Damage calculation from Protection).

However, there's a reason why the table explicitly mentions 'fish' - because bait is actually more likely to fish.

After all of the exams, it's completely boring without math, is it? 😉
