Build a game server yourself?

I like to play a co-op game with friends (recently: The Forest, Astroneer, Minecraft Modpacks), whereby we mostly use the host's PC to capacity. My question only relates to a small setup with which you can host one or a maximum of two games at the same time for about 2 to 6 players in good quality. Since I unfortunately have no idea about the requirements for Sever (unless more memory is good), the question arises what I need in what quality and quantity. If someone has more idea, I would like to say thank you in advance!

In my opinion, it is not worth building a separate server for it. A server is just a computer as you use it yourself. If your computer is good enough, you can host the server on your own PC, which is actually quite easy with Minecraft servers. There are tutorials on YouTube for this, often also on the specific modpacks.

The server is said to be online for a long time, which would limit the use of my PC and accelerate the wear and tear of the unit. Furthermore, I use my computer to the full with many other games myself, which would lead to problems for both instances! That's why my question was specifically aimed at a game server (how you can find it on the Internet).

I can help you choose the right hardware for a server. But first I need some information:

For which games do you want to host game servers? Minecraft only or other games too?
What is the maximum number of game servers you will probably have running at once?
Since the computer should run all the time, should it be particularly quiet or does the volume of fans, for example, matter?
What is the budget?

More memory is not always good at some point it just doesn't help you anymore.

You would have to reckon with 400 euro + and not everything will work out on it

Take a look at the used servers you can get on ebay…

A double processor board is often built in there, with the option of populating a lot of RAM…

I bought the R610 there myself many years ago and equipped it with the best possible processors.

I also installed 64 GB of RAM in it, which makes 6x Ark servers run excellently in a VM…

The part needs about 200 W of electricity, which means about 50 euro in electricity costs per month…

And you should be able to put it in the basement, because sleeping in the same room as the server is not possible…

Otherwise I would not build a server, because the parts are then not designed for continuous operation…

I'm happy to accept the offer!

To host things like: Feed the Beast Infinity Evolved Reloaded, The Forest or Ark
1 or a maximum of 2, depending on whether it drives the price up significantly or is practicable
It should be relatively quiet (it doesn't have to be extremely quiet, but also not extremely loud).
up to 800 euro would be appropriate, but if it should be a LITTLE more so that it fits, that's no problem either
