I plan to build a server myself. I wonder what I need, what is important so I ask here.
Let's say I'm building a server for a game in a few months, I'm going to take Minecraft, what do I need for hardware, what would be the most important thing, what do I need a lot, what little.
For your understanding:
Yes I want to assemble the server myself and put it in my room and No I don't want to rent the server on the Internet or anywhere else.
Summary:
It should be a self-made server that I put in my room, on which I run a game server and maybe also a team peak or a discord server. Since I do not know what is important for such a server, I ask this
You can't run Discord server yourself. Provides discord free of charge
nevertheless I find discord a thousand times better than TeamSpeak
Nice if you think so but it doesn't help me
You need the same thing as a normal PC, just not a good graphics card. If you want "real" server hardware you need a 19 "rack, EEC RAM, server CPU, etc. But that is quite expensive.
With Minecraft, you should calculate 2 threads per world on a bungee cord network.
I can understand well what you need the RAM for but what you need the CPU for and can or should the CPU be good, medium or rather bad
I have this one at home in the basement:
https://www.ebay.de/...3302118474
it was relatively cheap, I equipped it with 2 processors and 64 GB Ram and I run 6 ARK servers and 4 virtual machines with it - on Windows Server 2016.
I bought a rack cheaply and UPS and rack rails were also available…
So you see, it is not necessarily that expensive to get reasonable hardware to implement your plan…
the only thing you should consider, you will need about 60 euro electricity per month and in addition a fast internet connection is necessary…
with Discord it won't work, because Discord servers can't be privately hosted…
Thank you very much, I should have the money and the good internet connection
If so, 60 euro a month can also be used for a rental server, then you don't need to buy hardware…
If you have read my question then you know that I do not want something like that
Quote from my question:
"It should be a self-made server that I put in my room, on which I run a game server and maybe also a team peak or a Discord server. Since I do not know what is important for such a server, I ask this"
CPU as good as possible. Number of threads is based on the number of threads your programs can use and how many you use at the same time.
