Surroundings of a castle?

I'm currently building a castle in Minecraft. The castle is almost finished, but it's still pretty bare around it.

Since I also make sure that the castle is so halfway realistic, I wonder how it was with real castles.

Can I put a small village and a field right next to the castle? Or is that weird (because such a large castle would be a lot for such a small village)? But I also don't want to build a whole city where it might fit in (in terms of size)?
Or maybe just fields? Was it possible that a castle was surrounded by agriculture?
Or should I just green and beautify the meadow around it, but no longer build structures there?

Or do you have completely different ideas?

Oh yeah, here's another picture of it:

A beautiful forest and a lake, maybe a little village

Build a forest, a few woods, and a village and a lake. That would certainly look good, even if it was a lot of work

So in the Middle Ages it was normal that the farmers lived outside the castle and there was a farmhouse with their animals and fields that I always find so beautiful.

What you can also do is a forest with a hunter's hut that has always existed in the past

Fields, mills, farms, barns, pastures etc… Most of this is outside the castle and you don't have to build an entire village right away.

Just through trees, fields, fences, paths, streams and all the odds and ends, everything looks a lot more alive.

By the way, you succeeded in the castle!

I'm afraid it would look most realistic if you built a small town around it. The limit for this could be the lowest "layer" (that is, where it goes one block higher for the first time).
