I just want to get minecraft on my pc. My only question is: Is the Java Edition the same Minecraft but with more functions. I.e. If I just want to play Minecraft normally, can I do that with the Java Edition? And can I play with friends who have normal Minecraft if I have the Java Edition?
It depends on what is normal for you…
There's the java edition, which is the first version of minecraft they made.
Then there are the Xbox 360 and ps3, ps4 and pocket edition versions of minecraft.
There's also the bedrock edition, which emerged from the pocket edition.
Well, and more that I forgot.
You can't play any version with another. Bedrock edition only with bedrock edition, xbox 360 only with xbox 360 and java edition only with java edition…
But the bedrock edition is available on most platforms.
Java Edition is the "normal" Minecraft. There used to be only this and nothing else except the appropriate version for mobile devices. Believe that unfortunately crossplay between the two versions is not supported.
With the Java Edition you can play normally.
The Win10 version, on the other hand, can be used across platforms, including XBox etc.
JAVA IS THE NORMAL MINECRAFT!
You can only play with people who have the same version as you. Here are a few advantages of Minecraft Java:
more servers, there are significantly more servers and players
No PE-MC, you have the original Minecraft, not cell phone stuff
Mods, you can download and play mods for free.
Texture packs, customize your MC with texture packs, also completely free of charge.
Bedrock edition only with bedrock edition
and java edition only with java
Because of "GeyserMC" this is not entirely true.
With this software, Bedrock players can play together with Java players
Believe that unfortunately crossplay between the two versions is not supported.
Because of "GeyserMC" it is possible to let Bedrock and Java play together on one server
Never heard of, interesting.
But at least that doesn't work with mojang software by default.
