To everyone who can't play the game, keep scrolling.
Me and my friends have a Minecraft world in which we have been playing for some time, since the new update 1.17 is coming out soon, which will completely change the world generation, we will also want to see the new things in our current world. However, we're not sure if there's a way to play the new update in our current world without losing our old stuff.
Is there a way to do this?
Actually you should be able to continue playing if it's a server on java then I don't know how but normal worlds in bedrock or java should still work just copy the world and try it out with java servers but there are certainly tutorials for something like that
It is not yet possible to open a world that was generated in 1.16 with a 1.17 snapshot. You will have to wait until the full version comes out anyway. But even then you will not lose any of your things.
It is always dangerous to start older worlds in newer versions.
Minecraft warns against this too.
You can try it out, but I would definitely make a copy of the world in the world overview!
Or do you have a server?
So far, as far as I know, no old worlds can be updated to the new 1.17, this feature will come later (currently only snapshots).
You could just try to copy the world and then update your copy
If you want to load your old world later in 1.17, you can do that with the world generation. So the chunks that have not yet been entered or loaded are new, the rest remains the same.
