Rivers flow in Minecraft?

I would like to have a river flowing next to the few houses, how does that work? I have since the world created the streams mod installed, but that brings nothing synonymous, it is believed I recognized as a lake or something. I also tried to write a mod where there's then running water as a block, but I've tried this for the first time and it does not work. Do you have ideas?

They are generated in the world. Build your houses just beside the river.
