Short story I and a buddy created a minecraft world yesterday out of boredom and had fun after a while. Then he went offline at some point and I just wanted to put it on again, I just don't know what my buddy has to change so that I can get to the map without him being online

Does not go to console. But on the Java Edition you can rent a server and then each of you can go up anytime and alone.
Unfortunately this is not possible. It has to be online so that you can play on it
