Why can't we play Minecraft PE together?

My sister and I wanted to play a Minecraft PE world together. We both have IPads and are in the same WLAN. If you then click on the displayed world of the other, a message appears after a short loading that you can't join the world. Does anyone know what might be the reason?

Yes, we downloaded it around the same time and there haven't been any updates yet.
