I might soon want to build a PC with which I can play games like Microsoft Flight Simulator, Minecraft, Warzone, Cold War etc. And stream them at the same time. But now I have to choose between the Ryzen 7 2700X or the Intel I5 10400F… Which of the two would you recommend? Is the R7 better for streaming because of the multiple cores? What do you all mean?
In terms of price: the 10400f wins over the 2700x (144 euro to 199 euro)
Gaming: The 10400f is superior to the 2700x in some games. If only between 5-15 FPS
Despite the low standard clock rate of 2.9 GHz, the single-core performance of the 10400f is slightly better than that of the 2700x, because the IPC (Instructions per Cycle) for the 2700x is lower than for the subsequent generations.
Efficiency: 10400f → 65W TDP maximum (according to data sheet) and since non-K processors can't easily be overclocked, it can be assumed that this 65W limit will usually be adhered to. The 2700x, on the other hand, consumes 40W more TDP and needs higher voltages for its standard and boost clock rates than the 10400f, which means more energy for the VRMs and thus a higher heat development on the part of the CPU.
Multicore: A category where the 2700x wins, of course, because it has 2 cores and 4 more threads than the 10400f
Overclockability or undervolting: As I said, it is locked with non-K processors. Works with AMD, however, without restrictions. So another point for Team Red.
Streaming: The 2700x would also be better here, as you lose fewer frames with it while you are streaming and you can also use harder OBS x264 presets (fast, slow, etc.). According to experience, the 10400f does not do quite as well here. In the OBS x264 preset "Fast" you have an FPS loss of 35-44% depending on the game. Result: 4: 3 for Team Blau, but that doesn't mean that the 2700x is a bad CPU and I would definitely prefer the 2700x to the 10400f for streaming in this case too, because, as I said, you have less FPS loss here than with the 10400f and presets like Fast or Slow can safely be used for a better quality of the stream. In addition, as I said, the FPS differences are rather "marginal". At most in Fortnite up to 21% and in CS: GO up to 19% more FPS with the 10400f. (Source: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/...079vs3958)
