I would try if I installed the latest version of Java.
Just go to the Oracle site and download 32-bit Java, even if you have a 64-bit system. In my experience, this version is more suitable for Minecraft.

I think the sticking point was anti alliasing or something like that. Try to reset everything to standard in your graphics card settings
