Minecraft Bedrock Edition turtle eggs won't hatch?

Hi, I have the following problem in the turtle enclosure.

The turtles lay their eggs well and live in the enclosure. The eggs break on us turtles hatch when I wait next to them. As soon as I can't see the eggs, they eventually disappear, but there are no baby turtles around.

Is that normal?

I've been trying around for weeks, but it's always the same - the eggs slowly break open over time, but instead of babies there's nothing. Unless I stay there just before I leave, when little turtles hatch.

You have to stay in the same chunk otherwise they will despawn
