Delete Minecraft individual items, how?

I want to know how I can kill individual items on the floor with the / kill @e command. E.g. / kill @e Kills all items on the floor, but I want it to only delete one type of item, how do I do that? I tried / kill @e [name = chest] from, but it doesn't work either.
