Play Virtualbox Minecraft (problem)?

I want to play Minecraft with a VM. Now to my problem with the VM: If I want to play Minecraft it crashes (glfw error 65542) no support for OpenGL → that means I would have to install or update a graphics card driver. Now I have no idea how I can get a graphics card driver for a Vm because the graphics card is only used indirectly… Can I just install a NVIDIA driver?

Vm platform Windows 10

DirectX shows me the following

Name Microsoft Basic Display Adapter

Manufacturer: standard graphics card type

Chip type VirtuelBOx VESA BIOS

Total memory 1673 MB

Display mode 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (64 Hz)

So if then you have to install the Virtualbox Guest Additions.

If you want to play in a VM, you have to pass a graphics card through. Otherwise the performance is not enough. In addition to suitable hardware, you also need a "more professional" alternative to VirtualBox, with which you can pass on graphics cards (I have previously used KVM).

If you have the 3 d support from the guest extension also installed on Windows 7, this only works in safe mode on win 10, I haven't tested it yet

Su

That won't really work with virtual box

it works e.g. With hyper-V, but minecraft via VM is rather stressful, minecraft in particular is very poorly programmed, so ergo deadline is already quite good.

Br

I don't really want to gamble but the game has to run halfway. All right with 12 FPS but somehow it has to work.

Br

Did you manage to install Minecraft with Hyper V? -is easy to install?

Br

I can't start with the answer right now: /

Su

I installed windows 10 as a VM on windows 7 and then installed a directX game on win10, which worked, I don't know if it works with minecraft. And what means easy means I don't know, it was easy for me.

but I would never play minecraft via VM, since there's a windows running in windows / linux and then minecraft, that can only be slow.

Then you should first read into the settings of the VM. You have to activate the 3D hardware support in the VM Configs and then install the guest extension. You have to download this as an add-on first… Setting up and operating a VM is not just 3 mouse clicks…

Br

You used Hyper V right? Does the program also take your physical graphics card as a virtual one? Because then I just have to install a driver for my graphics card in the VM

Su

No idea, I took the IGPU from the Intel processor.

Br

I had already activated the 3D hardware support, that was logical. I didn't even know that there were VMs until yesterday. I'm about to get to know the topic and therefore did not yet know that there's an extension for it.

El

The guest extension comes with the necessary drivers so that the virtual hardware is installed correctly. Supporting drivers are also installed to make the process between VM and host system better.

Br

Thanks for the tip, that was exactly what I need.

It's not just about performance, the VM has no actual hardware components other than the CPU. So there's no graphics card available and therefore no drivers. As already mentioned, you need a KVM for this. The USB controller is not really passed through, for example, which is why you can't do certain things, such as currently iOS 13 jailbreaking without KVM, since the device is only forwarded there.
