Generally the caves should be improved. Because you can install so much. New ores, crystals, stalagmites, stalactites, … There are many possibilities.
If there are new ores, there definitely should be new tools and armor.
New opponents or general new mobs are actually in every update and that's a good thing.

After the 1.13 (ocean) update it was also speculated whether 1.14 will be the cave update. Villager update was also cool.
In the new update bees and maybe other insects are added. 🙊🙈
No matter where you go, the caves are the same in every biome. A few new, better caves would be great. New ores would have little use.
