How to remove Minecraft blocks quickly?

You can use / fill in Minecraft and enter the coordinates. Then the given stone is within the coordinates. But is it also possible the other way around? That you can remove many blocks quickly (for example when building a basement). Is there something like / remove?

Try with / fill [coordinates] air…

With WorldEdit, mark area and set 0 or replace stone to 0 for example
