On the Bedrock Edition you need additional programs to play with an old version, but on the Java Edition you need additional programs to play with mods and other extensions.

There are more servers on the Java Edition because the Bedrock Edition server software is still in beta, but this will change over time. The servers at bedrock are better because they support crossplay, mods and scrips

Why do you think the Java is better when there's no official mod support?
Because there are better servers (my opinion), I also find the PvP system better, I like to use clients like LabyMod and Badlion, where there's nothing comparable to the Bedrock and on Java there are many more players who do the same Skill level as you have, in the bedock it feels like only mobile players (almost always 8 kills rounds in SG)
