Minecraft damage effect is not displayed?

When I play Minecraft, I no longer see this red damage effect (picture).
Does anyone know how I can reactivate it, or why it is no longer displayed?

(Picture is from Gamepedia.) In my case, the mob (or I) is damaged and also flies back, but it doesn't glow red.

Possibly a version error or you have set something specific that shows the effect.
