Where are the Minecraft items?

Normally you can find your items at the point where you died. But since I fell into lava, I can no longer find my things there. Is that normal?

They are burned.

But if you can do "/ gamerule keepinventory true" when chats are on, then you keep the items at the dead. Alternatively, there are also mods like the gravestone mod

Of course that's normal; the things are burned in the lava. Only armor / weapons / tools reinforced with netherite do not burn in lava: everything else does…
