I have a few PC parts over, since I upgrade my PC next week and then wanted to run my current PC parts as a kind of home server. I have no experience in the direction and I hope it is not wrong to say that it is a home server, if you like to correct it.
Data of the "Homeservers":
Motherboard: Asus Rog Strix B250G Gaming
Processor: Intel Core i5-7500
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4
Hard disk: Mediamax internal hard disk 1TB RPM: 7200
Graphics card: Asus GeForce GTX 750TI (only if I needed an extra screen)
1.) Now I wonder how well the whole thing will run and if I would need an extra monitor + keyboard and mouse or if it is also possible to connect it via USB to my main computer.
2.) Should I then run as a kind of second computer, I would have to install Windows, or do I have to anyway?
3) Furthermore, the question arises to me how I should install a Minecraft server on it, because there are several ways that you can try, for example. Hamachi server, or if there's an extra program for something like that.
4.) Also, I wonder if I can use all the memory (16GB) for the server or only a part, because any other programs have to run incidentally.
5.) How well will the server then run at all with the above parts, since it should go very strong in Minecraft servers in the CPU on single core performance.
6.) Is a 1TB hard drive necessary, because it is supposed to be just a Minecraft server and then he would not have to store tons of data, because then I would have to install a 500GB hard drive.
It should be important: I would like to install all the mods 3 on the server (about 260 mods) and play with about 4-8 players. Online is indeed required per player only 60-100MB, but my experience with a hosted server with zaphosting with 4GB have shown me otherwise and the 16GB of memory are anyway left of my old PC and are therefore installed, whether necessary or Not.
The server is also turned off at night, so does not run 24 hours, but only so 10-16 hours a day.
I'm sorry that the post is so long now, but then everything would be clarified and I do not have to open 10 questions here.
In terms of performance, the server is sufficient.
I would put it on once, install Teamviever and then do everything on your main computer.
You can google the rest together.
Consider the electricity costs, if the 24/7 runs…
1) You briefly burn a mouse / Tastertur
2) I would take a Windows or Linux server operating system.
3) Release the ports from your router and request a static IP.
4) can easily use 15.5gb
5) This is an overkill home server
6) 500GB are enough for the purpose, 120Gb is even enough for me
7) Whether it is worthwhile to make out at night is a question, but you do not need the GPU on keienn, you have no added value.
To 2) Sure, who also takes MAC as a server system?
Thanks for the answer. Did you set up such a server yourself?
I'm a little kid with Windows Server 2012
