Checkpoint 1.8 Minecraft?

How to make a checkpoint for a jump run in Minecraft 1.8? In 1.15 I would know, but the commands in 1.8 are difficult to use. The checkpoint should be a gold pressure plate and when you go on, the checkpoint should be displayed in green in the action bar.
