Minecraft Nether portal bug lost my village?

Hi, I've just built a Nether Portal in Minecraft and I'm in the nether. Immediately afterwards, I realized that I forgot my pickaxe. I went back into the portal to come back, but ended up in some weird cave in the Overworld, far away from my village.

What have I done wrong?
How do I get back to my village?

Was it the same portal or did you build a second one?

You theoretically did not do anything wrong, that just happens sometimes if the portal does not want it right,
