I built a mob farm for XP in Minecraft. My problem is that the creepers always explode even though they shouldn't actually see me. What can I do? This is what it looks like below.

If you stand so directly at the opening, they will see you. Hit it from further back, ideally placing a block in front of it.
Is there another option?
I can't think of any. If your problem is that you can't pick up the items like this, I would just place funnel minecarts under the surface where they fall on. Then the distance doesn't matter. I wouldn't drop it directly on the funnel, the XP always get stuck in there.
