I kinda try to try minecraft. But do not look through the editions. I want to use the game mainly on the PC, but would also be nice if I could someday use it on XBOX or Playstation…

You should buy it on minecraft.net this is the original Java version. In addition you get a Windows 10 version key for free.
The Java version is the best version. The servers are for this version and you can moddes them completely.
Do you buy only the Windows 10 version you get synonymous only this. This is tied to the store and has barely public server to offer. Mods not really anyway.

I'm not sure right now but I think the Windows 10 Edition (which you get for free if you buy the Java version) works on XBox One as well.
But the versions for Android, iOS, Switch, Wii U, PS4, PS3, New Nintendo 2 / 3DS (XL) and possibly XBox 360 you would have to buy extra.
No she does not. They are compatible for Crossplay but not more.
