Had tried "&" at the beginning. Unfortunately it didn't work…

Maybe it was because there was no config folder

Write & instead of § and drag a plug-in to the server that converts the & characters into §. Essentials Chat, PexChat, etc. Then it should work

And you really did "& 1 & lMessage" and not "§ & 1§ & lMessage"?
