If you leave turtles permanently in water, will they drown?

Hi to the minecraft professionals xd as already described in the title, do the turtles die when they are permanently in water?

No, but there shouldn't be a block above the water, they still need to get air.

I've tried it all the time and can tell you that turtles survive in the water.

P.S: Please pay attention to your choice of words next time, "killing" is not a particularly good word.
