Is a Mojang account a Minecraft account?

I have a question.

I have Minecraft Pocket Edition and would like to have the normal Minecraft so I went to the official site of Minecraft, and then I'm on buy. There was then I have to log in with my Mojang account but what is a Mojang account? Is this my Minecraft account or what is it?

A Mojang account is an account at Mojang.com

A Mojang account may or may not be a Minecraft account.

If you buy Minecraft on minecraft.net you have to create a Mojang account.
