PC | CPU upgrade?

This is an upgrade question of a different kind, or angry tongues would say "from a different age".

I currently have one

Intel © Pentium © CPU G620 @ 2.60GHz × 2

Since I run Gnu / Linux on the computer, it doesn't take much either, but there would be 4 cores per min. 3Ghz meanwhile quite nice.

I would prefer a used CPU from Ebay for less than 30 euro.

The question is what.

The mainboard is one from a prefabricated PC from Lenovo. Unfortunately, I don't know the series. But the socket has to match the current processor, right? So a better processor with the same socket would work right?

About the graphics card: GeForce GTX 750 Ti which I bought from a friend for 4 euro defective, but works perfectly.
8Gb Noname RAM mixed from various other ready computers
some China firec power supply (350W who believes it)
Linux 5.3.0-46-generic (the only 'stable in the setup)

And no, I'm not going to buy new hardware. I'm completely satisfied with the rest.

Oh yes and it is not gambled (only very rarely nostalgic Minecraft).

I5-3450 or i5-3570 or i7-2600

I would be looking for an i5 3470 or 3570. Is there just in the price range of 30 euro, the leap in performance is quite remarkable: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/...2636vs2771

If you are lucky and patient, you can get them all on eBay for around 30 Eus.

Thank you very much.

You can see what is theoretically possible in the table below. These are all CPUs from the same generation.

PC CPU upgrade

https://de.wikipedia.org/...rchitektur

Everything depends on the chipset of your mainboard or its compatibility with which processor models.

The OEM boards from Acer, Lenovo etc and co are often somewhat "restricted". There's often an MSI technology behind it. These boards are then called MS-xxx.

Therefore, you should definitely know which motherboard it is. As you also know, strong CPUs also have higher TDP or power requirements. It must be ensured that the small power supply unit can handle even high loads.

Thanks, I'm trying to find out in the foreseeable future.

Because I tried to use an Intel Core i3-3240, but it didn't work.

The mainboard issued long beep codes, could not find anything about the codes on the Internet.

So now I would be careful to buy a processor because there's a risk that it will not merge…

I try to find out the mainboard type or finished pc type, and then I write it to you.
