I'm thinking about getting 2x4 RAM for my Community PC or 2x8. The PC is said to be mainly for gaming and the games that are being played (Fortnite, Minecraft and csgo.) Are therefore not the most expensive games.
Since the money has a limited budget, I tend to use 2x4 RAM.
Ps: Looking forward to every thoughtful answer.
2x4 gb would be enough but would recommend you to get 1x8 gb you on the channel does not really bring much current in the newest games so better put a 8 in and then upgrade to 16 gb RAM later
Um…
Dual ram is twice as fast, and that in the browser etc. It shouldn't be completely lame.
Jo that could work, but in the long run it could be problematic.
It is not twice as fast, it is only transferred to two units at a time, which makes it faster, but it is about the fact that I find it unnecessary to buy 2x4gb if you get 1x8gb and then add a 1x8
It is a community PC, I will not retrofit anything there. It stays the way it is.
Then I would go to 2x8 with the fastest possible clock. It is not twice as fast with dual channel.
what kind of CPU do you have?
Are you seriously recommending someone's RAM in single channel for gaming? Are you crazy? You leave so much power behind, it's never worth it.
I just wanted to say. Does he have any idea about PCs and components?
If he wants to upgrade to 16GB, he'll buy 2x4 GB again and that's good…
The current status is: Most games manage quite well with 8GB. Slightly more complex games are happy about more and benefit noticeably, but usually run quite well with 8GB.
However, you should of course not have 20 Chrome Tabs, Discord, music players and all existing game stores open in the background, otherwise it will be tight.
Better 2x4 GB with usable speed than 2x8 GB slow RAM.
Sure, 2x4 GB is better, but he has a limited budget
Probably picked up some half knowledge on YouTube.
Better 8GB fast RAM (highest possible clock rate + dual channel) than 16GB slow RAM. Most games don't even fully utilize 8 GB, but if the RAM is too slow, every game gets problems.
AAA games can treat themselves to 12 GB of RAM if you let them, but they also run better at 8 GB than on 16 GB of slow RAM.
Yes you just pass on what I said rather 1x8 RAM instead of 2x4 if you mean it the other way then I do not understand or I generally do not understand why you write something of 16GB RAM because if it gets once 1x8 with good clock is enough this yes for almost every game at the moment and then he can upgrade to 16 GB RAM by getting an 8 GB RAM
Wtf. The price difference of 1x8GB and 2x4GB are max. 4 euro.
You already know that 4x4GB is better than 2x8GB, right?
Yes, I quickly noticed that you don't understand it, that's also the problem here.
And no, I prefer to say 2x4 GB because that's faster than 1x8 GB. And in this situation, speed is more important than capacity in games.
Again very slowly, because you apparently are not familiar with the topic:
Many games only need a few GB of RAM. Let's say a game needs 2 GB of RAM to store all the data in RAM. Then it is completely irrelevant whether you now have 8 or 16 GB RAM, because the game can save all data in RAM at 8GB.
But every game has to store something in RAM and the processor must be able to retrieve this data. And if the RAM is slow, it will take too long, no matter how much or little data is in the RAM.
In summary: There are very few games that "suffer" from 8GB RAM, most games need significantly less. But every single game loses performance if the RAM is slow, e.g. Because it runs in the single channel.
This is actually only correct for workstation mainboards and CPUs with quad-channel. With normal desktop / gaming motherboards, it makes no difference, because they can only dual channel.
Thank you
He never said that one should take 1x8GB, but that 8GB as total in a dual channel configuration with high frequencies is completely sufficient.
Yes that's true. When upgrading, it's mainly about the 16GB Ram. As far as I know, you can even tickle out a few fps.
Dualchannel provides 20% more performance for the processor. This is only twice as fast with an apu / internal graphics unit, since it also draws your vram from the ram.
2x4GB are currently sooo expensive, it is NEVER worth it. You can much better buy 1x8GB first and then buy the same or a similar ram if you have the opportunity. A good 8GB kit starts at 45 euro. For 62 euro you can get 2x8gb. That's almost 17 euro extra for 8GB more.
Exactly.
Yes, of course, very modern games can make use of more than 8GB RAM, but can also cope with less. Then you may have to reduce the visibility a bit or you have to live with slightly lower details.
With slow RAM that would not help either.
I personally recommend 16 GB for gaming, but if the budget doesn't allow it, you can go astonishingly far with 8 GB. Especially if you only play eSports titles, for example.
So personally I would use 2x8.
2x4 would be constantly full with me.
But do not know how it is with you
