I'm an active Minecraft player and have had quite a few FPS drops for a while. Half a year ago I had around 800-1000 FPS with the PC (based on Minecraft). Now I only have 200-400 FPS. Sometimes for seconds under 100 FPS. I would like to know why that could be. The parts are not really old. 2-4 years. It is not due to the settings and TPs. I tested everything there. Performance-guzzling programs are not open in the background for me. I have the same open as back then (OBS, TS³, DC, OperaGTX and MC).
I've heard that dust can collect on the graphics card, which means that the graphics card can get hot faster and the performance drops. Is that correct? If so, could I clean it?
I have an Intel i5 processor and a GTX 670 graphics card.
You can't really tell the difference between 60 and 1000 fps anyway. So be satisfied. A normal movie is at 24 fps or so.
I know I only have a 144Hz monitor. I would still like to know why. Performance has to be lost somewhere. The FPS are also sufficient.
The higher the version, the more demanding it is for the graphics card to render the game. In addition, if you have changed any graphic settings on e.g. OBS, this can also press the FPS. In theory, dust can be a reason your FPS are lower, but as far as I know, a dusty graphics card doesn't lose as much performance from being dusty.
Okay thanks. I haven't changed anything on OBS and, as for years, I play with LabyMod on 1.8.9.
It is difficult to tell where you are losing the FPS because you haven't changed anything. (Of course it can be due to updates, do you have the problems even on very low settings?) There may be a performance-consuming program in the autostart (task manager autostart) select only the ones you want to use.
I actually play on low graphics settings and only have the above programs open. As before. Even the texture packs don't matter.
