Does a Lan world not work, one has a Mac?

I wanted to play Minecraft together with a friend (with a few mods and 1.8) I have the mods I have transferred via USB stick to his Mac. Of course he also used version 1.8.

He went to multiplayer (and yes, he had a connection) and clicked on directly connect and entered the IP address and the server port as shown in the video. But unfortunately it did not work… What do you think was the problem? Do you think it did not work because it has a Mac and not a Windows device?

Normally, the world in the multiplayer menu is automatically displayed to the other as soon as the world is opened in the LAN, manual input of IP and port is not necessary.

But I often had problems with open worlds in the LAN, I recommend to host a server itself, is simple and works much better / more reliable.
