Minecraft chunks disappear?

I created a Minecraft survival world with a friend a few days ago. We built houses, everything was completely normal and then we went to the end. We kept inventory and also played with teleporting to the other. When we had defeated the Ender Dragon, we didn't go through the portal but built a path away from the island to discover new end islands. After a while we didn't feel like it anymore and both jumped into nowhere because I had written down the coordinates of the end portal entrance. When we both spawned at our usual spawn, the world was just cut off. That means there were blocks below us but in one direction the world went on infinitely as usual, but in the opposite direction it suddenly stopped, that is, the chunks were gone, completely gone, there was only emptiness to be seen and you couldn't get through Restart the game or chunk reload to get them back. If you walked into this empty chunk area, you kept walking on the blocks that were supposed to be there, but couldn't dismantle anything, didn't use any arcs and so and when you pressed F3 to see the "targeted block", there was nothing. I would like to add pictures, but I don't see an option. So if you can imagine what the world looks like and know something and how I can add pictures later, please let me know! Ps: I use a Macbook Pro 2014 if that helps somehow.
