Do I only have to buy Minecraft once?

I currently have a Linux PC, and I want to get a gaming PC in about a month plus or minus. (i.e. Java Edition)
There's the question: Do I have to buy Minecraft 2 times if I want to buy it on different systems, so I can buy for Linux, and then I just have it 1 month later on Windows 10?

Co

Depends on the Minecraft version. If you get the Win10 edition it is clearer not to use it on Linux. But if you get the Java Edition you only need to buy it once, and then use it wherever the Java edition runs.

Na

Uff what?

Minecraft Java Edition and Minecraft Windows Edition are two different "games".

Once you have purchased the Java Edition, you have it forever (account-bound). If you change your PC, install Minecraft and log in with your existing account, you can play Minecraft ^^

In fact, you're not buying Minecraft, you're buying a Minecraft account. The game itself is free to download, but you need to log in to an account to play it.

No, only if you want to play a different edition. You have to pay Bedrock extra if you have Java.

Ha

You only have to buy the Java Edition once.

It runs on Linux, Windows and macOS.

If you want to play the Bedrock Edition under Windows, you would have to buy it again (as far as I know you don't get it for free if you own the Java Edition).

But Java costs more for Linux.

Thank you!

Na

Java itself is free. Minecraft, which is based on Java, is account-bound. That means if you install Minecraft on your Linux computer, you can then play with your account.

The Windows 10 version of Minecraft is NOT based on Java and can only be played on Windows 10.

The Minecraft Java version costs less than the Window 10 version and can be played on Linux and Windows 10.

If you don't want to buy Minecraft 2 times, then buy the Java version.
